Turning Anxiety into Happiness
Understanding Anxiety
Do You Know the definition of anxiety? Psychiatry offers an excellent point of reference. It is an apprehension, uncertainty, and fear resulting from the anticipation of an event or situation, often impairing physical and psychological functioning.
The Emphasis is important to understand…Anticipation! This tells us that most chronic fears are a product of our mind. Worry and doubt separates you from people & things that you love promoting fear & pain. This is a complex personal health condition. But, complex does not mean impossible to overcome. We all know the saying, ‘anything is possible if you put your mind to it.’
First, let us come to the conclusion that anxiety is an unhealthy condition. Spending time feeling anxious only increases your likelihood of feeling anxious. Conversely, spending time on what you really want will get you more of what you want.
What Do You Want? More time with your family; more money; a vacation; to be more giving, loving or most importantly, fulfill your life’s purpose. You may be thinking that this all sounds nice, but what should I do when I start to feel anxious about something?
How Do I Turn Anxiety into Happiness?
Abraham Maslow said, “What is necessary to change a person is to change his awareness of himself.”
Your thoughts determine your future!
So what should you think about?
Throughout Your Day, keep the “big” picture in mind. Give thought to the fact that we all come from the same “source”. Whatever you feel comfortable in calling it, the Universe; Divine Intelligence; Infinity or G-D. You are a special, unique individual that wants to find meaning & purpose in life.
Give Up Trying to control people or events in your life. Your day is filled with endless possibilities. Your destiny is “unfolding” in front of you and YOU are doing the unfolding. Sure, seemingly stressful events will occur. But our power lies in the ability to perceive these events negatively or positively.
What Will You Choose?..
Everything You Do Today Will Shape Your Tomorrow.
You May be Thinking we have not spent enough time talking about anxiety…but that’s the point! Let’s spend our time thinking about what we want out of life.
Changing Your Belief System Requires Effort; Concentration & Care.
Imagine spending your whole day being organized; successful in your work; loving & being loved by your family and providing support to friends & strangers alike.
The Truth of these ideas lies in our ability to believe 100% in its possibilities. It is important to stay focused & develop a strong, positive belief system.
Your Actions will help strengthen your higher consciousness. Listen to that small voice inside of you. It’s telling you everything you need to know. What follows are some other suggestions to help you dissolve your anxieties.
Avoid Alcohol, caffeine & smoking. They deplete your B vitamins, which are invaluable for maintaining calm.
Avoid “Trigger” Foods, such as, simple sugar; aspartame-loaded foods; nitrate-preserved meats; MSG; fast, salty, fried foods and soda.
Eat Simple, calming organic foods, such as, brown rice, barley & other whole grains; oatmeal and steamed vegetables.
Eat Foods Rich in Calcium to help you with stress, such as, sesame seeds; almonds; soy foods & dark leafy greens (i.e. kale & collards)
Eat Foods Rich in Magnesium to protect your nervous system, such as, kelp; wheat germ; bran; most nuts & soy foods (i.e. tofu, miso & tempeh)
Eat Foods Rich in B Vitamins to support your adrenals & nerves, such as, whole grains; beans & nuts.
Eat Foods Rich in Vitamin C to improve your stress response, such as, peppers; greens; broccoli, kiwi, blueberries & strawberries.
Relax: Take a quiet bath; get a massage or do Yoga.
Deep Breathe: Inhale through your nose slowly; hold your breath for a count of 5; exhale with a sound; repeat 4 more times. Do this as often as you like during the day.
Exercise: You will be amazed what a 10 minute walk can do for you.
Meditation: Find an “affirmation” that works for you. Do it every day. I have enclosed my affirmation of gratitude that I do every morning for about 15 to 20 minutes. Here it goes…
I Accept, I Thank, I Surrender.
In Front of You; You, the Universe;
You, the Cosmos; You, the Guiding Hand, G-D.
A Living G-D, the G-D of All Existence.
You have returned & restored my living essence,
my consciousness of this coming day within me,
as a consequence of your beneficence, mercy & goodness.
Great is your faith in me & I will not let you down.
And I will not let my family down. And I will not let my friend’s down.
And I will not let the stranger down.
And in that way, I will not let you down.
Allow Your Affirmation to Help “Shape” Your Day.
Get Personal Coaching: All successful people have coaches. Get help in developing a healthy diet; proper exercise routines; helpful lifestyle choices plus creating a positive mindset.
Would you put a professional sports team on the field without a coach?
Do you listen to an orchestra without a conductor?
Remember, you are not alone; you are a part of a magnificent universe. There is real order & purpose for your existence. Know that your life has great possibilities & imagine what you want to become.
