Do You Have Kidney Stones?
The Definition
Kidney stones are created when minerals that normally float free within the kidneys combine into crystals. When this mineral waste overloads and the body has too little fluid – crystals develop on the inner surfaces of your kidneys.
There are three types:
- Calcium salts are the most common (75-85%)
- Struvite or non-calcium containing crystals (10-15%)
- Uric acid crystals (5-8%)
Urolithiasis is a medical term used to describe stones in the urinary tract.
The Warning Signs:
- Extreme pain in your back or side that will not go away
- Blood in your urine
- Fever and chills
- Vomiting
- Urine that smells bad or looks cloudy
- A burning feeling when you urinate
Please seek help – if you experience any of these symptoms.
A Brief History
Ever since World War II, there has been a steady increase in the number of episodes being reported. Today, nearly 10% of American men and 5% of American women may develop at least one stone by seventy years old.
The Cause
This is a devastating illness created by a diet:
- Low in Fiber
- High in Fat
- High in Calcium (usually from commercial dairy products)
- Large Amounts of Animal Protein (red meat, chicken and fish)
- Refined Sugar (cookies, cakes, ice cream and pies)
- Alcohol and Refined-Commercial Grade Salt
In addition, excessive use of antacids and adrenal exhaustion may contribute to the problem.
The Solution
A plant-based diet, low in protein and starches, including plenty of fresh, organic fruits and vegetables will strengthen your ability to prevent stones.
- Drink Plenty of Pure, Filtered Water to flush out your body.
- Limit Caffeine Products which inhibit kidney filtering.
- Eat Plenty of Organic Fruits and Vegetables to increase your fiber intake and reduce the intake of unwanted toxins.
- Eat Organic, Grass-Fed Beef or Dairy Products in small amounts.
- Use Sea Salt (small amounts) – Avoid overly-processed, table salt.
