Nutrition and the Immune System
The Key to Good Health

Understanding the Basics of nutrition and the immune system are important for living a healthy, balanced life. Nutrient deficiency is the number one reason for a depressed immune system. An overwhelming amount of scientific research tells us that a deficiency in just one nutrient can have a profound, negative influence on our health.

Good nutrition and the immune system keep us strong our whole life.

Powerful Foods for a Strong Immune System

  • Eat a diet rich in whole, natural foods, such as, fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans, nuts and seeds
  • Lower your intake of fats and refined sugars
  • Eat small, yet adequate portions of protein daily
  • Drink 6 to 8 glasses of pure, spring water - every day
  • Supplement your diet with a nutrient-rich, concentrate of fruits and vegetables

Simple Sugars
The Number One Killer of the Immune System

Research Shows that eating 100 grams (3.5 ounces) of simple sugars, like white sugar, glucose, fructose, sucrose, honey or pasteurized orange juice reduced the ability of white blood cells to destroy bacteria. This occurs within a half hour of eating and can last for over five hours!

In fact, simple sugars can lower these white blood cells by as much as 50 percent within two hours leading to a depressed immune system.

Eating “complex” carbohydrates, like brown rice does not lower your white blood cell count.

The Average Person in the United States eats about 150 grams of refined, simple sugars every day. Clearly, this is poor nutrition and the immune system will suffer. If you know someone affected by cancer, AIDS or any other chronic disease – tell them to AVOID SUGAR!

Powerful Food for Disease Prevention

Did You Know that we carry bacteria, infections and even cancer cells in our body – every day! Fortunately, we have natural “killer” cells or white blood cells that help protect us from illness and disease. In fact, we can improve the function of our white blood cells by eating foods rich in beta-carotene.

What is Beta-Carotene?

Beta-carotene is part of a family of chemicals called carotenoids, found in many fruits and vegetables, such as, carrots, sweet potatoes, kale, squash, spinach, apricots and green peppers.

Studies have shown that as little as 30 milligrams of beta-carotene per day or two large carrots will improve the function of your white blood cells.

To date, the Institute of Medicine at the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) has not developed a recommendation for carotenoids. But the NAS does encourage people to eat five or more servings of fruits and vegetables every day or three to six milligrams of beta-carotene.

Beta-carotene improves our nutrition and the immune system by protecting the thymus gland.

What is the Thymus Gland?

The Thymus Gland is one of the most important glands in our immune system - responsible for the production of T-lymphocytes (a type of white blood cell) and the release of hormones associated with a strong immune system.

Prevent Free Radical Damage of the thymus gland from stress, drugs, radiation, infection and chronic disease by eating plenty of fruits and vegetables.

Tips to Boost Your Immune System

  • Keep All Fats and Oils to a minimum for optimal immune function. Researchers have found that excess fat intake can lower the function of our white blood cells.
  • Eliminate consumption of highly-processed foods low in vitamins and filled with toxic chemicals.
  • Eat Foods Rich in Vitamin C, E and Selenium, such as, Broccoli, Brussels Sprouts, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Collard Greens, Radish and Turnips.
  • Use Garlic to stimulate the production of white blood cells and increase the efficiency of your antibody production.
  • Take Omega-3 Fatty Acids Just half a teaspoon of flax seed oil a day has been shown to lower the frequency and intensity of severe respiratory infections in children.
  • Avoid Excess Alcohol and remove food allergens that may cause excessive immune responses placing too much stress on the body.

Provide the Proper Nutrition and the Immune System
will remain healthy always!
