Pesco-Vegetarians: Eat fish, eggs and dairy products, like milk or cheese. Many people may say “they are not true vegetarians,” but I say these people are on a healthy path of self discovery. They choose NOT to eat red meat and poultry. I have met many such people who live very healthy, happy lives. By the way, a pesco-vegetarian diet is a great place to start making healthy changes to your diet. Lacto-ovo Vegetarians: This is probably the most popular form of vegetarianism. These people eat NO animal flesh but allow for the consumption of dairy products and eggs. Ovo-Vegetarians: Eat NO animal flesh, NO dairy products but allow for the consumption of eggs. Lacto-Vegetarians You guessed it! They eat NO animal flesh, No eggs but allow for the consumption of dairy products. Vegans Are the “pure” vegetarians. They eat NO animal products of any kind. They may even decide to avoid using any products made from animals, such as, leather belts or fur coats. Clearly, research has shown that reducing the consumption of saturated fat, increasing fiber intake and eating foods loaded with easily digestible vitamins and minerals is a good thing. Any of the vegetarian types listed above will help you live a healthier life. If you want to eat animal foods, try to find organic products that help you avoid the unnecessary consumption of chemicals, pesticides, growth hormones and antibiotics. I think we can all agree, this would be a healthy choice. Best of all, you would be eating a much higher quality animal food product – closer to its natural state.
